It’s been a long time since having a newborn baby in the house since my oldest child, a son, is 5 1/2. With an almost 2-week old newborn and Father’s Day coming, the VTech VM981 Expandable HD Video Baby Monitor with 1 Wi-Fi Camera, 5” Touch Screen from Amazon.com was an excellent addition to our baby gear, especially for my husband. When rounding up baby gear for our newborn daughter, we had to start all over. What this meant to me – LOTS of PINK, headbands, and girly clothes, blankets, and more! And, since Daddy will be spending lots of time with his daughter during his paternal leave, inspiration struck for a DIY no-sew blanket for them to cuddle in when he wasn’t already watching her adoringly on the VTech VM981 Expandable Video Monitor.

VTech products are meant for early stages of independence giving parents the support and confidence needed, and additional monitors can be added as you grow your family (up to 9 cameras). The 5″ screen is touchscreen, which makes it easy to navigate and configure. The VTech VM981 Expandable Video Monitor gives you baby coverage in real-time, so Mommy and Daddy can keep their peace of mind wherever sweet baby is. Connecting to your home’s Wi-Fi connection, the VTech VM981 Expandable Video Monitor is convenient and portable giving you the liberty to see AND hear baby anywhere he or she may be! As busy parents to a 5 1/2 year old and a newborn, installation made easy was definitely something we applauded. With quick and easy-to-follow steps, the monitor was ready to use almost immediately. My husband is currently on paternity leave, but I know that with the included remote access through the new MyVTech Baby app for Apple iOS and Android, Daddy’s girl can be viewed from the comfort of his office when he has to go back to work.

DIY No-Sew, Personalized Blanket

When it comes to preserving memories, DIY usually is the way to go because it’s homemade, completely thoughtful, and usually a great conversation starter. For this very reason, I decided to create my brand new daughter a beautiful no-sew, personalized minky fabric blanket for her to cuddle in with either Mommy, Daddy, or big brother. This is a great gift addition to the VTech VM981 Expandable Video Monitor for Daddy and daughter to treasure for years to come.

Step 1: Gather supplies.

  1. 1 yard of minky fabric of your choice
  2. 1 yard of patterned fabric of your choice
  3. Fabric glue

Step 2: Fold minky fabric in half and fold over as if to stitch and apply fabric glue and create a seamless seam. Press together and wait 30 minutes to dry. Iron once done to establish a good seal. Do this to all 4 sides of the minky fabric.

Optional: Add cotton batting before sealing all 4 sides to give it a fluffy, comforter feel.

Step 3: Flatten out the blanket so you know what you’re working with.

Step 4: Use the patterned fabric to either cut out letters for a name, shapes, or use the entire fabric to cover one of the sides. I chose to cut out letters for my newborn daughter’s name and rectangles to give it a faux quilt look. You can use a stencil or roughly cut them out for a more homemade and rustic feel. Use the fabric glue to attach it to the minky fabric. Press together to bind and then iron for a better attachment.

Step 5: Admire your DIY no-sew blanket and enjoy your cuddles!

Will you be gifting this amazing real-time VTech VM981 Expandable HD Video Baby Monitor with 1 Wi-Fi Camera, 5” Touch Screen to a Daddy or a Daddy-to-be you know? What about the DIY no-sew, personalized blanket?
