Discover Boating and Seas the Day

We are so fortunate to live in a country that is literally sea to shining sea! Most people are comfortable renting a car, but did you know it’s just as easy to use Discover Boating and rent a boat to enjoy this summer and beyond? Just type in your zip code and see what’s nearest you. Here in Seattle, anybody and everybody takes advantage of a little sun! If you glance at any body of water here, there are boats galore! How do you pick the right boat for you? Discover Boating has you covered – select a boat – and seas the day!

Although we have not yet gotten on a boat this summer, we absolutely plan to as there’s nothing as amazing as floating on the water. I have many childhood and young adult experiences on boats, and I have always enjoyed the sweet, sea breeze in my face and hair, and the sunlight in your face (make sure you apply sunscreen!). Children can absolutely enjoy a boat ride (or more) and you can easily find boat activities for youth, such as The Center for Wooden Boats in Seattle, where children can enjoy the maritime museum and enjoy hands-on activities, rentals, and just walking the docks.

As I said before, most people own or rent boats in Seattle. It’s more of a rain or shine event here! We have handfuls of parks and water bodies here, so most people in Seattle are outdoorsy by nature, plus since we deal with months of rain, summertime is for enjoyment and recreation! And, why not? Everyone should treat summer like summer vacation!

Are you close to a body of water where you can boat? What type of boat will you be enjoying this summer?

Discover Boating is a national, nonprofit program on behalf of the US recreational boating industry aimed to help people get on the water to experience the fun of boating. For those looking to get their feet wet, is an unbiased online resource packed with easy, interactive features on all things boating, including a boat selector tool, get on the water tab where you can find rentals, classes and charters, cost comparison tool, renting options, youth boating programs, education courses – even nautical lingo and how-to videos.

  1. Oh, fun!! I am in Seattle right now on vacation! My husband would love something like this.

  2. Hmm, not sure that I trust Jeff to sail without capsizing, but maybe a motor boat?? I know there are places to rent boats near me. I hope that they give renters a quick course in the “rule of the seas” before handing over the vessel, lol

  3. I didn’t now you were in Seattle!!! That is where I was born & raised (went to UW aka U-Dub). I moved to Arizona after I graduated, but go back to WA 2-3 times a year since all my family is there (mom/dad/sisters & their families). I miss it so much and we definitely want to make our way back up to the Northwest. Give it a big hug for me. 🙂

  4. We used to own a Sunfish but we ended up donating it to a children’s camp. Our friends have a house on a lake and we’ll go out on their boat several times during the summer.

  5. What a great day! I didn’t realize that you moved to Seattle!

  6. Sailing is something that neither I nor my husband has ever done. It looks like fun, tho. The water and wind looks so cool and inviting, in your pictures. It’s dry and sweltering, here. lol

    • It’s hot here also, but we usually have pleasant weather, so it’s fun to be near the water during these high 70s – low 80s temps! 🙂

  7. What fun! I love boating. I had rowing lessons as a child but have been hopelessly out of touch for a while now.

  8. Living near the water myself, I actually had no idea you could do this. I think I’ll definitely look into it for my husbands birthday next month!

  9. How fun! While I don’t live close to the ocean, we do have quite a few lakes around, and Lake Erie just an hour north. My husband says we should get a boat, but I get so sea sick!!

Gorgeous pictures in this post, Shipra!

  10. We don’t boat as much now a days since it has gotten super expensive, but we used to go out all the time until the last tsunami hit Hawaii and my uncles boat was ruined. It’s something we absolutely love and all of my kids naturally have sea legs. As a kid growing up – I danced hula on a boat, so we just love it. Great adventures and lots of fun are to be had 🙂

  11. What a fun outing! I don’t think I have ever been boating…

  12. I’ve never been to your neck of the woods, but hear that it’s beautiful. Your pictures are so pretty! What a pretty place to boat!

  13. Boyfriend and I went kayaking in Hawaii and now we’re really thinking about buying one for ourselves. We live by the ocean and have access to the river, so really we could boat anywhere we wanted!

  14. What fun! Gorgeous view! I just moved to Virginia and we are less than an hour away from the beach. I can’t wait to take my daughter there next summer, when she is old enough to enjoy the trip!

  15. How fun! We’re close to the Great Lakes in my neck of the woods!
