Slowly yet surely drugstore brands have been bringing out the matte liquid lipsticks. Of course, I had to get my hands on the Maybelline Vivid Matte Liquids. A lot of my drugstore lipsticks are actually by Maybelline because of their color offering, so I was really excited to see that they had also created liquid lipsticks. I only chose 2 to make sure the finish was exactly what I was looking for. So was it? Let’s take a look, shall we?
The two colors I chose were:
– Berry Boost
– Orange Shot
The first thing I examine when I look at a new brand of liquid lipsticks is the applicator. I was not really that impressed with the applicator, as I was expecting the tear drop applicator that the Maybelline Color Sensational Color Elixir lip glosses have. The scent, however, is identical, which is also kind of not my favorite.
The shades I chose are excellent, and I’m most happy with the color selection, but after applying, I waited for over an hour, and it did NOT dry at all. In fact, after eating and drinking, it did matteify a little, but not the way I had hoped.
Orange Shot – I took this photo after 10 minutes of wearing, so you can see the trueness of the finish. (Also, side note: If you check the display, it does state lipgloss, so I’m not sure why they have “Matte” in the name”)
I did actually take this picture of Berry Boost after having a glass of water, so you can see that it did matteify but not to the extent you would hope.
The formula is very gel-like and does have a cushiony feel as is described on their website. It’s a quite innovative feel and if you like a glossy lip, then this is a very pigmented and will last you about 2 – 3 hours with eating and drinking, and deeper shades will stain your lips. If you feel that matte liquid lipsticks are drying for you, this might be a great alternative.
Overall, I was disappointed with the labeling of this product because it states Vivid Matte Liquid, but as you can see, the lip product is completely glossy. Sure, it did matteify after a glass of water and possibly some blotting, but that’s not how I expect a matte liquid lipstick to perform. Hopefully, they will correct the formula and it will dry to a matte finish.
If you’ve tried this liquid lipstick, how did it work for you? What do you think of these?
Purchased by me. All opinions are honest and my own.
