Smashbox Insta-Matte Lipstick Transformer Swatches and Review

With the matte revolution going on, we are buying up all the matte lipsticks and liquid lipsticks we find, and we don’t realize that in that deep, dark corner in your vanity where your glossy, creamy, and shiny lipsticks lay, they are probably shedding a tear that they are no longer getting used by you (or maybe they are). Mine? Mine are truly crying.

Don’t worry for those lone lipsticks any longer. Smashbox has a solution for you!

The Smashbox Insta-Matte Lipstick Transformer.

When I saw swatches of this miracle worker, I could hardly believe it, until I tried it for myself, and let me say *SPOILER* It’s a must-have, guys!

Packaged in a sleek tube, it is definitely something you can pop into your purse or even a coat pocket. presssamplesticker

The applicator is similar to that of a lip balm’s, but I would recommend you not using the applicator directly unless you are prepared to keep it clean.

The formula is simply a gel that looks like a gel lip balm. The amount you see above is the amount I used to transform my lipstick into a matte lipstick. Shall we take a look?!

Below you see a glossy, creamy lipstick in Borghese Grappa:

Then transformed by the Smashbox Insta-Matte Lipstick Transformer:

So, my thoughts? I must say that this is innovative, yet there are other ways to do the same trick. I have tried translucent powder, and it does the job, but not as well as this product does. You are probably also wondering if the lip transformer also makes the lipstick transfer-proof. No, it does not. In fact, it shifted a lot more after I used this. The tube is ridiculously small, but since you need hardly any product at all, I think this should last quite some time. It did not make the lipstick more drying, which was a relief, so I feel that if someone wants to mattify their favorite glossy lipstick for a more “sophisticated, on trend” and very liquid lipstick look and finish, this is definitely worthwhile. I will be playing with this, and as I do, I will continue tagging this post, so make sure you keep your eye in the comment sections for new tags.

What do you think of this product? Innovative or not?

Before & After

Press sample. All opinions are honest and my own.

  1. So interesting to me that it doesn’t make the lipstick drying like a regular matte. It did seem to fade the color a bit, but not enough to say it’s a radical change. I’d definitely say innovative! I love the shade of the Borghese lipstick!

    • The Borghese lipstick is awesome, and since I was wearing it at the time, I decided to go with it. It faded because it was patted on AND it became more of a flatter finish. But, definitely NOT drying! 🙂

  2. Wow, this is a really interesting product, and it is really nice that it doesn’t make your lipstick drying in the same way that s many matte lipsticks still do.

  3. I think this is a neat product!

  4. Intrigued. I would love to get a sample of this and see if it leaches moisture and kills my lips. If not… I may have found a way to enjoy matte lippies, again. Thanks for this review!

  5. I like it! It worked well! Much easier & cleaner than a loose powder!

  6. I like that it gives you more use out of lipsticks you already like. Also if it’s not as drying as a matte lipstick that would be a plus for me.

  7. I definitely want this! I was hoping it would act like a seal and prevent transfer but you cannot have them all, I suppose 🙁

  8. What a great little product! I use powder from time to time but I hate getting lipstick on my brushes. I might have to try this.

  9. So cool! My mom would love this! She adores matte lippies and she could turn any lippie matte with this!

  10. Very interesting product and nice review but what about the ingredients ?
Can you add a pi of its full ingredient list please ?

  11. Thanks so much…it helps me a lot !!!
