I’ll admit, when it comes to foundation, I’m sort of a newbie. Last year, I had an unfortunate skin reaction that gave me cystic acne (could be a mixture of things – product AND age!), and since then, I’ve been working on getting my hyper-pigmented skin back to normal. Until then, I have the help of foundations and powders to maintain a flawless complexion.
tarte was generous enough to send me six shades of their Amazonian clay 12-hour Full Coverage Foundation SPF 15, their Light-Medium Neutral Amazonian clay Full Coverage Airbrush Foundation, and the Buffer Airbrush Finish Bamboo Foundation Brush.
The Amazonian clay 12-hour Full Coverage Foundation SPF 15 shades sent to me were the following:
– Light-Medium Neutral
– Medium Sand
– Medium Honey
– Medium-Tan Honey
– Tan Sand
– Tan Honey
Bottom – Top: Medium Honey, Medium Sand, Light-Medium Neutral
Bottom – Top: Tan Honey, Tan Sand, Medium-Tan Honey
My arm is much lighter than my face, so it appears that Medium Honey would be a good fit, but it was actually too light, and would probably suit me better as a concealer or highlight. The shade that suited my (NC35 in MAC and Jouer Cosmetics Matte Tint in Hazel for reference) skintone was, in fact, Tan Honey. Let’s take a look at my before and after without and with the Amazonian clay 12-hour Full Coverage Foundation SPF 15 Tan Honey.
I was actually surprised that my skintone appreciated the Light-Medium Neutral Amazonian clay Full Coverage Airbrush Foundation. I thought I would need the same shade as the liquid foundation, but Light-Medium Neutral actually worked for me.
As for the brush, the Buffer Airbrush Finish Bamboo Foundation Brush is such a plush, soft brush. Created using sustainable bamboo and synthetic materials, this brush definitely gives you the flawless, airbrushed look.

And, then my final look with the tarte Amazonian clay foundations as the base!
Eyeshadows are from tarte Away Oui Go Palette & Collector’s Set (crease: midnight stroll, lids: snow angels in the Parc) and Mascara is also the Lights, Camera, Lashes 4-in-1 Mascara (currently my favorite!) and blush is Intrigue. Lip is ColourPop Tulle Ultra Matte Lip.
I have been wearing this foundation all week, and I have to say this has quickly become one of my favorites (I have not yet broken out from wearing it, which means this is probably one of the ONLY full coverage foundations I can wear!). Amazonian clay is supposed be really good for the skin, so I think my skin might actually benefit from the wear of these. The brush has also quickly become one of my go-to foundation brushes! It is so plush and soft and it does not irritate the skin as you apply. I have also not experienced any shedding of the synthetic bristles. The bamboo handle is sturdy and makes it quite an attractive piece to display on your vanity.
What do you think? Have you found YOUR shade in tarte? What are your favorite products from tarte?
