MAC’s Matte formula is one of my all-time favorite formulas in lipsticks because it is creamy, comfortable, and lasts a long time and looks REALLY FLATTERING (given that you have exfoliated and moisturized religiously) on.
I have five to share with you today (3 which have been released before and 2 that are BRAND NEW). Let’s dive right into these!
In this post, we will see the following lipsticks:
– MAC Whirl Lipstick *NEW permanent shade*
– MAC Men Love Mystery *NEW permanent shade*
– MAC Flat Out Fabulous (Released before as part of the Retro Matte Collection)
– MAC Velvet Teddy (Released before; part of permanent Matte Collection)
– MAC Heroine (Released before; part of permanent Matte Collection)
L-R: MAC Heroine, Velvet Teddy, Whirl, Men Love Mystery, and Flat Out Fabulous
Starting with MAC Whirl Lipstick, the MUCH ANTICIPATED lipstick inspired by the matching lipliner of the same name. I do not own MAC Whirl Lipliner, so I cannot compare the two, but I have heard that they are quite similar. This shade definitely represents the current Pantone Color of the Year, Marsala, as it is a rosy brown shade and is also quite popular thanks to pop icon, Kylie Jenner.
Next, we have Men Love Mystery, a lavender violet matte, which I have heard is the matte version of MAC Up the Amp, but after swatching them and then wearing Men Love Mystery, I don’t believe this is true. Men Love Mystery seems to be a brighter, deeper lavender than Up the Amp, which is an amplified formula and has more of a pink undertone.

Flat Out Fabulous, a beautiful magenta, is a great Summer shade and definitely one that can be worn all year-round. This shade is stunning for all skintones! Although it is a retro matte formula, it is not drying and quite comfortable to wear. Since it is a tad drier, it may tug on drier lips to apply, but if you apply a lip primer or even a ChapStick, this should not be an issue.
Velvet Teddy, one of my favorite neutral lipsticks of ALL time, and quite a sentimental piece as it is a gift from in laws, is just a perfect, classic lipstick for a smoky eye look or a great daily wear lipstick. This lipstick is creamy, comfortable and lasts a great amount of time.
Another sentimental lipstick of mine is Heroine, as it was also a gift from my Husband and son on Mother’s Day awhile back (at the time, this lipstick was NOT permanent, but it has since been added to the permanent range). This iconic lipstick is a beautiful magenta-toned purple and looks GORGEOUS on all skintones.
Overall, these wear really well and comfortably and will always be one of my favorite formulas of lipstick. There’s nothing like that sweet vanilla scent and that black cardboard box with black tissue paper at your front door. I have also added 6 more to my cart, so I do expect there to be a 2nd part to this post.
