Yesterday was Karva Chauth. My day began like this:
I woke up at 4 a.m. to take a shower and pray, and then I immediately went to the kitchen and ate all the food (sargi) I had prepared for myself the day before (usually you are given food by your mother-in-law, and I truly and purely missed mine, since I had celebrated with her the year before, and it was so beautiful to share the company of fasting with her!). I also made myself a cup of tea and forced 2 small glasses of water down. It’s difficult to eat that early in the morning, as you can imagine, but you try to eat enough since you will not eat a morsel or drink a sip of water until you see the moon rise.
For more information on this Holiday and looks from previous years, you can check out my archive of Karva Chauth posts.
Anyways, my husband and son kept me busy throughout the day with movies and entertainment. So sweet of them. And, then, before the moon came out, I got “decked out” in my finest reds (the bridal color of choice for Indians).
I chose to keep it simple yet elegant since I was going to have to wash it off soon enough.
Face: Almay CC Cream in Medium and IT Cosmetics Celebration Foundation in Rich
Blush: MAC Animal Instincts
Eyes: Urban Decay Zero Eyeliner, Red Apple Lipstick The Lash Project Mascara, and Milani Bella Eyes Emerald Eyeshadow
Brows: SmartBrow in Brunette
Lipstick: MAC Carnal Instinct
And, then the other main part of my “dressing up” was MAC Bad Fairy. I missed this from the MAC Venomous Villains Collection, so I was excited for it to be repromoted, and in the MAC Rocky Horror Picture Show packaging! Look at just how amazing it looks (Haha, that just reminded me of the Anchorman quote, “Hey, everybody! Come look at how good I look!” But, seriously, look at the amazing packaging!!) – box and all!
The nail polish is a duochrome, so to speak, with shifting shades of red, yellow, golden, and orange, and even sometimes a glimmer of violet. It’s just spectacular and a perfect Autumn color (reminds me of the changing colors of falling leaves)! The formula is absolutely flawless. It took 4 coats to build it up to this richness. I would also recommend trying it over a black creme polish for a better shifting effect, but it’s not necessary. I did add a top coat of Glisten & Glow HK Girl to make sure it did not chip.
Then, I took this already gorgeous polish and took it a step further with Colores de Carol Holo Blast and holofied it. And, oh wow, what it did. So stunning!!
And, then with artificial flash:
And, that’s that! The moon finally did show its lovely face around 10:45 P.M. after which I did all the Karva Chauth rituals – looking at the moon through a sieve and then at my husband, and then offering water to the moon and then finally my husband offered me the water to drink after which we ate dinner.
What do you think? Would you fast without food or water for your love?
What do you think about MAC Bad Fairy? And, holofied?
Most items mentioned by me were purchased by me while others were press samples.
All opinions are honest and my own.

I love that polish! I’ve never fasted for someone else but I was raised Catholic, so I did some fasting growing up.

There’s something satisfying about fasting! It just shows that you have discipline. I love that about it. <3 It's a pretty polish! 🙂

I would fast for my hubby! It is so nice to honor your spouse in a way that is not commercial. It is so easy to buy a gift or card, so much more effort to not eat or drink! Thanks for sharing this ritual.

You’re welcome! And, thank you! <3 It felt pretty satisfying! 🙂

Those holographic nails are so great for holiday seasons like this! The lipstick is quite flattering on you, as is the blush.

Thank you, love! They are my faves! <3

You are so beautiful. I appreciate that you are sharing your traditions in this post. I didn’t know anything about Karva Chauth. What a beautiful/moving ceremony and tradition. I would do that as a show of love and commitment to my husband. I only fast during lent but it seems quite tame in comparison to your fasting.

I can honestly say that it would be super hard for me to fast for a whole day! I think though that if it is for a certain reason, and it is something that you know, maybe it will be easier! And that nail polish is simply amazing!!!
October 13, 2014 at 9:56 pm
Love that lipstick! I think fasting is so admirable, I don’t think I have the willpower to do that! Great post 🙂
