Essie Repstyle Collection: Animal Instinct, Magnetic Attraction

I’m not a huge fan of snakes and other reptiles (except for turtles because I have a beloved pet by the name of Leo whom now resides with and is being {extremely} babied by my parents). Don’t worry, I won’t show any pictures of animals as I know people do have fears. I do, however, have a fascination with the pattern that these magnets make! It looks a bit like fishnet stockings to me.

So, let’s move right along!

Here are steps that Essie provided:
Step 1: Begin by priming nails with Essie All in One Base Coat.
Step 2: Apply one coat of your favorite Repstyle shade to all nails.
Step 3: Apply the second coat of your Repstyle shade to each nail individually and hover the magnet above each nail. Get the magnet as close as possible without touching it. After 5 seconds, it will reveal a chic snakeskin pattern. Repeat this step, one nail at a time.
Step 4: After 2 minutes, top your mani with Essie’s Good to Go Top Coat for extra shine and protection.

I followed these directions and here are the manis I got with each one. I will discuss more after the swatches, so that you can look at the pictures first!

Crocadilly is a croc hunter green.

Snake, Rattle and Roll is a venomous oxidized silver.

Repstyle is a hypnotic desert bronze.

Snake it Up is a pewter pave python.

Lil’ Boa Peep is a copperhead titanium.

Sssssexy is a striking, scintillating sanguine.

So, let’s talk about these. You NEED the 2 coats for the pattern to show up. I was disappointed by the magnet because there was no rest on it like other magnetic nail polishes I have used. For this reason, it was difficult to hold my magnet steady over each nail for 5 seconds (it took just a tad longer) without either smushing the magnet into my wet nails or shaking and getting a funky design. As you can see, it isn’t extremely consistent upon each nail. I tried resting it on my cuticle area, but those didn’t get the design on the tips. I really liked the colors, opacity and especially the design, and my favorite by far was Sssssexy, the last one!

What do you think of these? Do you like magnetics? Which ones are you going to pick up, if any?
