Usually my hubs and I get to enjoy naan when we eat at a buffet, but I decided to make something decadent for my hubs since he really deserves it! So, I made him a delicious creamy Corn Makhani curry and surprised him with homemade whole wheat naan. It’s a labor of love, but creates a fragrance throughout the house that cannot be ignored because it’s so delicious!
2 cups of whole wheat flour (I use roti atta for every recipe that calls for whole wheat)
About 1/2 cup of plain yogurt
3 tbsp of butter melted/oil works well
1 cup of milk
1 tbsp of baking powder
1 tbsp of coriander powder
1 tbsp of salt
1 tbsp of sugar
Mix all dry ingredients in a separate bowl or sift as you see fit. Wet ingredients should be mixed separately so that everything is even. When this has been done, mix together slowly until a dough is created. Oil a bowl and place the dough and cover with a moist paper towel for about 30 minutes. Preheat oven to 495*. Oil your hands and create a pear-shape and flatten out with your hands. Place aluminum foil on a cookie sheet and oil unless you are using non-stick aluminum foil. Place the flattened pear-shaped dough onto the cookie sheet. Should be able to hold two naans. Take a tablespoon of minced garlic and spread onto the top for garlic naan. I also put coriander powder and garam masala over the garlic and a tablespoon of olive oil to help brown the naan and flavor it. Place the cookie sheet in the oven for 5 minutes. Flip the naan and place in oven for 5 minutes. Continue this process until naan has browned. Serve with curry or daal and enjoy!!
