When the latter half of the year crawls closer, my tummy rumbles for all the holiday goodies that will grace the dining table! Rumbles – yes, with excitement but also because of frequent heartburn. Let’s be real for a second, shall we? All the delicious, sweet or savory goodies may not be too friendly on the ol’ tum tum, and that should NOT stop you from enjoying them for one second! With Nexium® 24HR Capsules 42ct (1 per day), you can enjoy the holidays with all-day and all-night protection from heartburn!*
With a sweet tooth, chocolates and peppermints are my biggest love. When they are put together into the classic and mouthwatering peppermint bark, it’s even better! I love making homemade candy because I get to control the ingredients and amount – customizing them to our personal preferences. Two things that aggravate acid are chocolate and peppermint, so you know this twisty treat can and usually will wreak havoc. This is why I keep Nexium® 24HR on hand because both my husband and I suffer from acid reflux (albeit different variations), and as foodies, we need to be able to enjoy the food (especially around the holidays!) without suffering any consequences.
Walgreens is our one-stop shop for making homemade peppermint bark because I can grab Nexium® 24HR and all the ingredients at the same time while also browsing for all their exciting holiday goodies, such as mugs, toys, and more. This way I can get a headstart on making heartburn history! You can find Nexium® 24HR in the antacid aisle near the pharmacy.
Make Your Own Peppermint Bark
Step 1: Gather ingredients.
- White chocolate
- Milk or dark chocolate
- Crushed peppermint candies
- Peppermint extract
- 2 tbsp of vegetable oil
Step 2: In your bowl of white chocolate (and later do the exact same with your milk/dark chocolate), add a tbsp of vegetable oil. This will ensure that your chocolate be glossy. Vegetable oil or coconut oil can be used – just make sure that it is not a “flavored” oil. Melt in microwave OR in double boiler until smooth and glossy. Add a couple drops of peppermint extract to the melted chocolate.
Step 3: On a cookie sheet, arrange a sheet of parchment paper. This will ensure that the chocolate does not stick and comes off in beautiful and smooth pieces. Quickly spread the melted chocolate with a spatula and make as thin or as thick as you desire. If for some reason, it doesn’t smooth onto the parchment paper like you expect, melt it for a bit longer.
Step 4: Follow step 2 and melt your milk/dark chocolate. By this time, your white chocolate should have set. If not, place in the fridge for a few minutes. Use your spatula and pour (then spread) the milk/dark chocolate over the white chocolate layer.
Step 5: Finally, add the crushed peppermints to the top of the peppermint bark.
